Michael Gitter

Calling People Names

I shouldn’t complain about what people like to call themselves, since I usually prefer to hear someone call me ”Michael” to “Mike”.  But I never specify, and only correct someone when they call me “Mr. Gitter”, or “Sir” because I don’t like that type of fomality.

But I know someone named Jacquelynn.  And once when I saw her at an event, I called her Jackie.  She actually corrected me by saying, “My name is Jacquelynn”.  Yikes.  (And did you notice the unique and fantastic spelling?)   Then one day my mother is at a wedding, where F. Lee Baily was in attendance.  My mother, to make small talk, asked him what the “F” stood for.  And he refused to tell her. People are so uptight..
