I think that it is time to update the jumper cable.  Right now it is the same as it was when my grandparent’s Cadillac with the wings in the back died on Caton Avenue in Brooklyn.   You have to line the cars up just right.  Then open the hood of both cars.  Grab these heavy cables.  Hold on to the end of each clips on both sides without allowing anything to touch.  Flip back the battery cover.  Get through the grime build up to make sure you get it on the right side – Red is +.  Black is -.  Whatever.  Use all your strength to open the grips and grab on to the battery posts.  Not only is it a dirty process, but it can be also pretty dangerous.  Then when the cars are both running, just as carefully reverse the process.

This is the idea:  What about requiring all car makers to put a plug on the outside of the car?  Cover flips back like the waterproof cover on an outlet outside your house.  Grab the cable, Plug in both cars and you’re done.  It’s as easy as plugging in a lamp. And maybe it even comes with a retractable extension cord to make the whole thing that much easier!
