just wondering: Why does Microsoft suck so bad?

New York magazine has an article on Steve Jobs this week. It references an article which I quoted in my last post. The rest of this great quote from Steve Jobs about Microsoft is still so accurate, even though it is an old article:
“The only problem with Microsoft is they have no taste,” Jobs siad. “They have absolutely no taste and I don’t mean that in a small way. I mean that in a big way — tin the sense tht they don’t think of original ideas and they don’t bring much culture to their products.”
There is a quote from Balmer speaking with high school students about the upcoming release of the iPhone. He said, “Five hundred bucks for a phone? I wouldn’t want my kids carrying it around. Anybody here ever lose a cell phone besides me?”. Is that a dorky, small and snarky comment or what? Coming from a guy running one of the biggest companies on the planet and all he could think of was THAT?
I’m sorry but the company that launched Vista ($299), arguably one of the top ten worst products ever. shouldn’t be talking. Because they just previewed a $10,000 computer in a table. I guess they were trying to take the wind from the sails of the iPhone because it too has a touch screen tablet format. But is anyone going to fork out $10,000+ for that? So pot, who’s calling the kettle black for criticizing a $500 phone? It seems like a value by comparison. I guess they are just jealous because nobody lined up down the block when Zune launched like they will for the iPhone later this week.
So I ask — Microsoft, with all the crap you are coming out with, your President can only talk about the price of the iPhone? Couldn’t he have come up with something better? Or maybe even risen above the muck, and paid a compliment, by saying something like, “Steve Jobs and Apple have always been innovators. They have made our industry an even more exciting one, and have come up with some of the best and sleekest products ever. And as in the past, Microsoft and I continue to be excited by what they are doing over at Apple and look forward to working with them on this product and others going forward, and wish them the best of luck with this launch.” How nice and mature is that? Would it have been that difficult to say? The way he came off was totally ridiculous, and sophomoric. But mature isn’t the first trait that comes to mind when speaking of Jobs, Ballmer, Ellison, or so many of the others in that industry. Brilliant, innovattive and creative, world changing, fiercely competitive, yes. But mature…. unfortunately, no.
Where’s the outrage?
Of course Steve Balmer could have said something much more appropriate and mature- but these people are like that, petty arrogant and downright irritating. Mind you, I actually agree with Balmer- not only is the “iPhone” (or iCrap as I prefer to call it) ridiculously expensive, it also fails to do basic things like [nearly] all of it’s Android competitor’s can do (like play a flash video). Not to mention the fact that it’s competitors give you better hardware for the same money (or the same hardware for less). The truly sad thing about the iPhone and all Apple products is that; they’re not bad because their makers are unintelligent and uncreative (like Microsuck, sorry, Microsoft), it’s because of the company’s own stubborn, proud and arrogant view of themselves- the fact that they decide not to include industry standards like USB, SD cards, Blu-ray, e-SATA, Adobe Flash (even though we hate it) etc. As well as their exorbitant prices (among other things).
Ah well, I’ll guess I’ll just have to stick to my Linux and my Android
